making room for 2

A few months ago, when we found out that we would be having a baby boy this July, I immediately started thinking about how we could make Sommer's room work for both of them.  Our house is a great size but only has 2 bedrooms on the second floor and what could be a 3rd bedroom on the third floor.  We aren't ready to have Sommer on the 3rd floor at this point plus that room works so well as a guest room and play room that I can't imagine using it any differently just yet.

Here are a few pictures of their new room if you'd like to see how we are making it work.
Baby boy's space.  We are saving room above his crib for an elephant painting from Bear. (hint, hint Care)
Sommer so kindly went through toys and picked out a few that she thought her little brother would like to keep on the bookshelf.  And, after finding this quote on Pinterest, I have been searching for an arrow for this little guys space - "An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward.  When life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means its going to launch you into something great. So just focus and keep aiming."  I hope my kids can be inspired a little bit by this space.

Matt and Sommer both love picking out stuffies for our little buddy and I love seeing them all lined up waiting for him!

We got Sommer a new bed a couple months ago and finally got around to decorating the area around it for her.  She picked her butterfly bedspread (Target) and some new ice cream sheets.  I love the colors in the bedspread and they go perfectly with the bunting left over from Carrie's bridal shower last summer.  We picked up her Be Brave print and blue flower ball at Hobby Lobby.  She also has a nice space under her bed for toys and a little chair where she can sit and read books.

Her two paintings from Bear complete the space around her bed.  We painted the frames so they pop against the white wall a little bit more.

Both dressers are hand-me-downs that we painted and we picked up some new curtains to spruce up the space.

I couldn't resist the alphabet print and we are planning to hang a picture of Sommer and the baby on that wall at some point too!
I just love their space and am so happy that they will get to share a room for a couple years.  Some of my favorite memories from childhood are from sharing a room with my sisters.
