Blenheim Vineyards

I mentioned last week that I was heading to Charlottesville for the weekend and I am back to report that we had an absolutely wonderful trip, with two days full of some of my favorite things: family, friends, cupcakes, wine, good food and new adventures. As is typical, we probably tried to cram one too many things into a short period of time; however, the thing that I am really glad we made time for was a trip to Blenheim Vineyards, the winery famously designed by Dave Matthews (of DMB, of course) and William Johnson. This is a seriously beautiful, relaxing and laid back space with some delicious wine, and a healthy selection of fresh cheeses. We spent a really lovely afternoon here sampling five wines (for $5!), and then enjoying a glass of the Chardonnay and some fresh cheese and crackers with the scent of honeysuckle wafting through the air. As Brig put it, it was so perfect, it was almost (almost) annoying. Below are a few pictures, if you'd like to see!

[You had the option to do the tasting indoors or outdoors. We chose indoors since the two bars looked right out onto the beautiful sea of grapes.]

[Beautiful interior. If you look closely, you can see the tasting bars right up against the far window.]

[Dave Matthews himself designed the labels for the Painted Red & Painted White varieties. A teensy bit scary, but cool nonetheless ;)]

If you're traveling to Charlottesville, do the right thing and make Blenheim a priority! I am already planning a return trip.
