house happenings

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  Are you wearing green today?  Hope you had a great weekend doing something fun in some hopefully warm(ish) weather.  Before I show you photos of our house, I wanted to tell you about a couple fun places to visit if you ever find yourself in my neck of the woods...

Saturday was beautiful here in Central Virginia so we packed up the car and headed about an hour west to a trail in Charlottesville that we've hiked several times before.  We met up with Will's brother for a nice walk and then lunch and ice cream downtown.  If you're ever in the area and in the mood for barbecue, check out this great restaurant called Belmont Bar-B-Que.  It's a tiny little place with just four bar stools inside and extra seating outside.  The food was AMAZING.  Annabel and I shared the small slop bucket (such a great name) so we could try all the good stuff together (and believe me, it was all good), Tommy got the ribs which were amazing, and Will got a pulled pork sandwich, also really good.  With some hush puppies, fries, and cold soda/lemonade on the side, it was a perfect southern barbecue lunch.  Perfect for enjoying outside on a 65 degree day.  On Sunday, I drove back to Charlottesville, but this time to Pippin Hill Farm for a baby shower for one of my best friends.  The view was amazing, the food was fantastic, and the mama-to-be was, as she always is, so beautiful.  I can't wait to meet her new little girl in just a couple months!

Well friends, our house is coming along at an exciting pace with all the major building complete and all the fun details yet to come.  We've been visiting at least twice a week to see the progress and have been surprised with something new each time.  While we sort of knew the progression of events up until the framing walk-through, which we had a few weeks ago now, at this point we have no clue what happens next so it's all a fun surprise.  Here's what's been happening at the house...

Drywall!

Garage doors!

Kitchen cabinets!

Transoms!

Jack-and-Jill bath cabinets! (This is Annabel's)
Jack-and-Jill bath cabinets! (This is Tommy's)

Doors! Trim!

Master bath cabinets!

Chair rail and picture frame molding!

Stair rails!
Watching all the little details come together is so exciting - the kids are totally loving this whole process as much as we are.  On Saturday, Annabel was opening doors and calling out, "ALLLLL ABOARRRRD!" to get us to hide in closets with her :)  At this point we're on target for a May 1 walk through and then closing sometime that next week.  After some painting (Tommy wants red and Annabel wants pink!) and putting in ceiling fans and window treatments, we'll be ready to move in hopefully at the end of May if not before.  So.  Excited.

Here's to a great week, friends!  Cheers, Happy St. Patrick's Day, and Happy Birthday, Aunt Jan!  :)
