Do you remember this song from The Sound of Music? A few years into piano lessons, as a ten year old, I was given the sheet music for this song and promptly learned to play a choppy and unappealing version of it. As it went with most songs that I overplayed, it soon became annoying (even to myself) and now I almost can't stand to hear it. Despite that, and in keeping with our one-year theme, I thought it would be fun to recap some of my favorite posts from the year, and then give you a chance to win something!
I write about a lot of different things on this blog, but generally speaking I would say there are a few over-arching themes: food, travel, holidays, nature and miscellaneous (for good measure). Does that about sum it up?
Favorite Food Post
This is actually up there as one of my favorite posts I have written thus far. Even though this looks like some sort of grouting material, I cannot emphasize enough how delicious this hummus is. And it's even better with a side of homemade tortillas and white zinfandel.
Favorite Travel Post
Not so long ago, just back at the end of May, my friend Brigid and I took a long weekend to head to Charlottesville, VA. I really love to explore new areas, and Charlottesville, with its artsy town center, myriad wineries, college campus and historic touches, was the perfect spot to visit.
Favorite Holiday Post
I know these don't pertain specifically to a holiday, but I mean, just look at them. They are the wintertime and Christmas embodiment of a cookie. This was my first attempt at making these cookies and they were overwhelmingly successful and delicious, even for someone who would rather eat lemons than chocolate. If you bookmark one thing from our blog, it should probably be this recipe. Your family will love you come December.
Favorite Nature Post
Hiking Pole Steeple is such a fun pastime and it's so Central PA I can't even stand it.
I was really excited this year to discover that the rock outcrop was open and it made for the most beautiful picture, shown above.
Favorite Miscellaneous Post
I wrote Let's Rate Something back in October and to this day, it is still the most fun I have had writing a blog post. This is probably because it has two of my favorite pop culture items included: Mindy Kaling and recaps of five wonderful romantic comedies. And while I'm talking about it, I'm considering writing a Let's Rate Something: Part Deux, because I realized I left the movie Wimbledon off the list! Oversight.
